» Feature Writer Aurae Beidler - All kinds of problems now, though she acts normal.

So, the mama kitty I adopted last month is doing great. Except that when we took her to the vet, for her pre-op exam (spaying) we found out she has FIV antiboties. On top of that, her blood protein was low. She had worms too!
So, we got rid of the worms, and are feeding her with healthy food. But now she has a higher risk for her surgery. I was wondering if her low blood protein levels had to do with being malnurished from having a large amount of round worms...so we are waiting and will have her tested in a month.
She has to be an indoor and only kitty now, because of the FIV. It's sad.
I told her previous owner about the FIV, so she could alert the kitten owners.
Any thoughts?
We love her and she loves us, so it's good. happy

Well I think she's very lucky to have found y'all! Being diagnosed with FIV isn't necessarily a death sentence to a kitty. Many live until their older years and have happy, healthy lives for the most part, with a few adjustments. There's a cat with FIV that runs our local shelter... at least that's the way he sees it... and they just keep him separated from the other kitties.

Your vet should tell you everything he recommends to get her immune system as strong as possible. Be careful about handling other people's kitties... they could have the simplest thing that could make your kitty pretty sick.

It sounds like you've got a pretty good vet. I'm sure he'll let you know when your kitty is ready for surgery.

You'll be well loved by this girl, and I wish the best for y'all! Poor girl has been through a lot - she deserves a good home!
