hmmm ok. That is kind of good because she has a female and likes the male kitty. How early can you get them spayed? What age?

Well, some vets are doing kittens as early as 8 weeks old! That whole thought just scares me to death, but they call it an "early spay & neuter program." Some breeders even have their cats altered before sending them home to their families.
I've always said around 5-6 months is best, but then Poppy went into heat at 4 months old LOL That's highly irregular, though! With your grandmother getting a male kitty, though, I'd aim early, around 4-5 months old, so he doesn't learn to spray or anything before he gets neutered.

Another question.
It is exciting getting to know these kittens. I have noticed that the cream and whote is lways up by her omo's head o in her mom's arms. I mean always. Have you ever seen a cat have a favorite kitten or pay more atention to one then the others? I think it is more the kitten being a mommies biy sine that is the only one I can really say for sure looks like a boy down there..lol still unsure about the tabby as I am now second guessing myself..
The two tabbies hang together alot too. They are the most agile and can get around the best right now. The dilute calico is always somewhere in the middle minding her bee's wax and getting plenty of milk and the gray one (I have fallen in love with her) is the least agile but so calm and mellow. The gray one is also definitely bigger compared to all of them. Developmentally speaking I think she is the least advanced but she is so big and her bone structure is different then the other kitties. They have more narrow heads like mom, but she has the biggest head..lol I keep wanting to call her meat head..lol she is the fluffiest too. She must take after daddy.
Oh and some of their eyes are starting to open.. all but the calico and the gray. The rest you can see some eyeball..lol

Isn't it the greatest experience in the world! I can't even believe how fast they develop personality!
YES! It does seem the mommy always have a pet, and normally, it is the boy, especially if it is the only boy!
The kittens also develop friendships between themselves. There will be a couple that are wild and rompy together and two that are always cuddling, and several always in a nap pile while one is independent or with mom.
I think the ones that open their eyes first are always the go-getters. The ones that start out all sweet and calm and slower to develop - those become the hellions LOL
I LOVE getting to know my kittens! Each is so wonderful and unique.
(With my first litter, I changed what sex I thought they were about a dozen times and had quite a few different opinions LOL)
Have a great night!

OK one last post before bed. My two kids and I just spent some time with the kittens babysitting while mom took a break. The two with their eyes opening the most are the two that come to the edge of the box looking for mom...go getters like you said!
We named them so we dont have to keep referring to them by their colors.
The calico is ophelia because she is independent and sophisticated.
The mommy's boy, the beige and white polydactyl, is fluffer nutter because he looks like a peanut butter and fluff sandwich.
The gray one is bliss, because that is whay I feel when I look at her
The tiger/tortie is aloha because she was the first one born
and the tiger stripe is Izzie because we keep saying "izzie" a boy or is he a girl...lol
Mom came back so we had to relinquish custody....
Have a Wonderful evening.

hahahaha LOVE love love the names! How creative! I think your tiger/tortie is called a patched tabby... if she were a persian, that's what she'd be anyway ![]()
You have a great evening, too! Enjoyed the kitty chat

» lindyflood - cat breed question
Is american short hair the same as domestic short hair or is american short hair a type of breed?Oh scratch that question...I edited this queston because I found the answer in one of your articles...lol
Are American Shorthairs and Domestic Shorthairs the Same?
It is important to note that the American Shorthair is a completely different cat from what we refer to as the Domestic Shorthair, which is not a purebred cat but simply what we call any mixed breed, shorthair feline. Once you see pictures of American Shorthair cats, you will easily notice that they have a very distinct face, and if you are lucky enough to meet one, you will see that they are bred as much for temperament as for the way they look.

I would have thought they were the same breed, too! I like researching the breeds I'm not familiar with and writing about them - you learn so much!

Isn't that neat! I am dieing for a Maine Coon, but they are VERY hard to find in Tennessee. My sister-in-law picked one up at the shelter, and she's the best cat they've ever had. I adore my Persians and Himalayans, though! And I hope to get an Exotic some day soon.
There are just SO many cool breeds to choose from! And when you learn more about the breeds, you can more easily recognize what your mixed breed might be.
My sis-in-law got a big orange and white cat at the shelter. One day she mentioned that she was polydactyl and liked to drink with her feet. I knew right away she had a Maine Coon! So she went and got online and researched Maine Coons, and sure enough, "Biggie" is Maine Coon LOL
