I'm going to see if I can find a bigger box for them over this week because although they are fine for now, I think, getting a bigger space would be good. I'll introduce the other cats in several weeks although for the most part I think the other cats won't be too impressed -- posted by jrw3333 » ThatCrazyCatLady - new to newborn kittens In response to new to newborn kittens posted by jrw3333:
We've had a sick kitten the past couple of days - he has a Urinary Tract Infection and is now on antibiotics. I hope he heals up. He also had some crystals in his urine, which means his pH balance is too high... we'll see how things go after a couple of days of antibiotics. Hope everyone else is doing well! -- posted by ThatCrazyCatLady » balihai_red - Orphan Kitten I have an orphaned kitten I found out on my patio with the umbilical and placenta still attached. He is now 27 days old. He has had loose bowels all along and now has developed into diarhea. I am giving him electrolytes and a Pectillin diarhea med. He was bouncy and pretty stong for the extremely rough start he had in life. His little behind is very scaly even though I have kept him very clean. He has no problems as far as "going" goes. He is fading and I can't get a control over it. I have diluted his formula. I have used every diaper rash ointment I can think of. I am feeding him a little formula and a little eletrolyte every two hours.I have gotten very attached to the little guy and I am crying as I ask this question. I honestly think the outcome is inevitable. For I think I cheated Mother Nature. Some suggestions for his little behind would be appreciated. Along with some advice for mixing his formula. He is just weak and a little small for his age. Also when I found him he had an injury to his eye. I have kept oxytetracycaline Ointment in his eye all along but he has lost the eye. Other eye is open and he sees pretty good for his age. Should I mix him some sort of solid food? Could this be the problem or is Mother Nature just going to claim what is hers. Maybe he was just on a loan to me for a little while. -- posted by balihai_red » ThatCrazyCatLady - Orphan Kitten In response to Orphan Kitten posted by balihai_red:
It does sound like he might be fading, but we can fight for him just a little while longer. Have you tried something like neosporin or an antibiotic ointment on his bottom? And you might try giving him some human baby food - I used Gerber's second stage chicken and gravy with my last kittens, and they started off really well with it! You might also let him lick a little plain yogurt off your finger a couple times a day and see if that can balance out his digestive system a bit. I wouldn't worm him or anything until the diarrhea is under control. Definitely keep giving him the electrolytes, too! We lost a kitten to a uti this week, and it was one of the most difficult things ever for me. My heart is with you and your little kitten, and I hope he pulls through! -- posted by ThatCrazyCatLady » balihai_red - Orphan Kitten In response to Orphan Kitten posted by ThatCrazyCatLady:
