» rberdos - Himalayan Persian cat missing after 1st night in new owner

are Himalayan persian cats known to hide? Someone just gave me a Himalayan persian cat and I took him to my apt last night. He kept on running down the stairs and staying by the door. There was no way that he could have gotten out the door. I woke up at 5am and couldn't find him?

In response to Himalayan Persian cat missing after 1st night in new owner posted by rberdos:

Hello! Well, if you're the only one there and didn't let him out, then he probably IS just hiding somewhere. They're not known to hide as a breed, but it's a cat thing happy Set up his litter box, put some food and water out, and maybe open a can of tuna and try to lure him out of hiding. Tuna usually makes quick buddies of you happy It can take up to a week for him to start acting like that's home... sometimes more.

When I introduce new cats to my home, I close off extra bedrooms and the office and the bathrooms (except the one where his box is), and I limit their space so they can't disappear and I can catch them and pet them a lot. After a few days, I open another door, and then a couple days later, another, until the cat is easily exploring new territory and coming back around the rest of the family, too.

One of my first cats ever was an adopted retired grand champion persian. She hid under my bed, only eating and using the litter box at night while I was asleep, and she didn't come out until one day one of my friends had their kids over, and we were laughing about my hiding cat. The kids started looking for her, and she came right out and started playing with them. I let them take her home, and she never acted the way she had with me. But most cats DO adjust happy

Good luck!
