My kittens are going to be 6 weeks old in two days. At week one, they opened their eyes, and at week two, they started responding to my voice. By week three, they were climbing out of their nest and ready to take on the world, and at week four, they were eating solid foods and learning to use the litter box. At week five, they got their first baths and full grooming, facing the blow drier like brave little kitties!
Over the next two weeks, they will quickly take over the house! There are kitten toys everywhere, and they will receive lots of visitors (including children) so that they are properly socialized. They’ll get their wormings and vaccinations, and then they’ll be able to come out and play with all the big kitties in the house!
Though I always hate to see a litter go to their forever homes, I love seeing how happy their families are to be taking them. If you are looking for a new kitten, make sure you research different breeds and learn about each breed’s personality, health, and special needs. Interview different breeders and ask lots of questions. After all, a cat can be with your family for 15 years or more.
You may have to get on a waiting list to get a kitten from a good breeder, but it will be worth the wait. That will give you plenty of time to prepare for your new kitten and stock up on toys.
