I feel like I’m up to my nose in kitty litter each day with seven litter boxes to keep clean! Lately I’ve been researching and testing new cat litters because I always want to use the best possible litter that I can afford, AND I have had an odor problem with my stud male, Hooch. So how are things going with the search for the perfect cat litter? I’ve basically decided that they all have their good and bad qualities, and I’m wondering if there IS a “perfect” cat litter out there somewhere?
Tidy Cat has been great for every day use for us, but it didn’t control Hoochie’s odors. Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat completely eliminated Hooch’s litter box odors, but the one I tried wasn’t clumping. I’ll try a clumping version of Precious Cat for Hooch next week. World’s Best Cat Litter works better than Tidy Cat at odor control, but it tracks something awful and wasn’t as effective at odor control as Precious Cat. To me, it smells a little like wet corn.
As I researched litter box problems, I realize that the “perfect” cat litter might be different for different cat families. You may have a kitten, a pregnant cat, a sick cat, an elderly cat, or a cat that just won’t use the litter box. What do you do? Well, that’s what I’m here for! I’ll compile a comparison of the different types of litters that I try out after I test out a couple more. In the meantime, here’s a list of articles to help you with your litter boxes:
