As I watch my cats doing their “kitty thing” throughout the day, I always laugh at the way they interact with each other. Hooch thinks he’s a lion, surrounded by his pride of females, and Dutches is more elusive, only coming out for mating, preferring a solitary lifestyle like the leopard.
Poppy is fast like the cheetah, and Lily would be my stocky jaguar and definitely thinks no other could possibly conquer her. Jasmine is my snow leopard with her big feet and all that beautiful fur, and Buttercup surely believes she is a tiger! She loves to hunt, and she carries her prey around in her mouth with pride. All I’m missing is a little cougar!
I love how cats are so driven by their instincts. Newborn kittens will hiss at a human only minutes after being born, having no idea that they are so tiny and fragile. Domestic cats will hunt, even when very well fed. Even a domestic cat’s breeding cycles are guided by the seasons. They will not typically go into heat from the end of October until nearly the end of January so that a litter of kittens wouldn’t be born in the snowy months, helping to ensure their survival.
