What to Do if Your Cat Shows FLUTD Symptoms

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of FUS, now known as FLUTD, can help save your cat’s life if you react quickly.

This past week has been really difficult for me. Every kitty parent is aware of the dangers of feline urinary tract problems, but many aren’t aware of how quickly these problems can take a cat’s life.

Last Saturday, I noticed that one of my six-week old kittens was very wet in the genital area. I kept an eye on him, and on Sunday, he was still active and playful but was a little more wet than he had been the day before. On Monday evening, as I was wiping the kitten off, I noticed that he had little salty looking crystals around his genital area, so I researched “crystals in kitten urine.”

I was terrified to discover that, even though my kitten didn’t have all the symptoms and was way too young to get FLUTD, if I didn’t act quickly, he could die within three to six days. I called my vet immediately on Tuesday, told her the symptoms my kitten was having, and was given an appointment on Wednesday morning.

The vet examined my kitten, found blood and struvite crystals, and put him on antibiotics. Our angel passed away on Friday morning.

Please read my latest article on FLUTD so that you know the signs and symptoms and can get your cat to the vet immediately if you see any of these signs! You do not have time to delay! You can NOT treat this at home. Hopefully our kitten’s story can help save another cat’s life.
