Cat Fleas Revisited

I Bought Cheap Flea Treatment and Regret It

Having obviously not learned my cat flea lesson last summer, I am once again crunching my budget to buy more topical flea treatment for my cats.

Last year was my first summer in Tennessee with cats. I assumed, incorrectly of course, that since my cats were never outside, that they couldn’t possibly get fleas. We adopted a puppy, and my trials began! The puppy didn’t last long, but his fleas were here to stay!

After finally eliminating my flea infestation by following a strict daily cleaning regimen, a crazy bathing ritual for the cats, spending an absolute fortune on house and furniture sprays and yard treatments and Frontline, and getting everyone treated for tapeworms, I thought I could possibly try a lesser priced (yes, cheaper) product. So, upon a recommendation from a reputable catalogue, I opted to give BioSpot a try.

A long, greasy furred kitty week later, everyone in my house is starting to scratch again! I am so disappointed! You would think if you didn’t have fleas (of course I must’ve had one or two lurking in the corners), that you could use a mid-grade variety of topical flea treatment for protection with good results. What a waste of money!

So I have learned my lesson this time. I’ve been interested in switching my cats to Revolution (which also prevents roundworms and hookworms and provides protection against mosquitoes that transmit heartworm), but I couldn’t find it at all locally, and I couldn’t afford the extra cost of shipping. Then a friend recommended I take a look at PetShed.com, and now I’ve got an order in for all my flea treatment. They’ve got the best prices I’ve seen, and the shipping costs aren’t bad. They promise delivery within 4 to 10 days, compared to the 6-week timeframe I’d seen elsewhere without paying extra.

If you’ve got fleas, don’t skimp! It is never worth it in the longrun.
