A continued review of different name brands of cat food. Are the high priced cat foods really worth it?

In Cat Food Review, we reviewed low to mid-priced brands of cat food, and in this article, we’ll take a look at the values of the higher priced name brands.

Biljac

Biljac is very good and more towards the expensive end of cat foods. It is an extremely well made food due to their processing technique. Their food maintains a higher percentage of natural nutrients because of the way it’s made. However, I only use Biljac when I have a cat that just won’t eat anything or who isn’t thriving. I’ve never seen an animal turn down the taste of this food, but it puts weight on them quickly! If you have a cat that needs to put on a little weight, Biljac will do it. If you have a cat that is already on the hefty side, I don’t recommend Biljac.

Biljac averages 16.49 per 8.5 lb bag.

Nutro

Nutro is simply an excellent food! Nutro is made with lots of natural ingredients, and you can see the effects on your cat almost right away. Their coat just glows on a diet of Nutro. This is a chicken and rice food, and even the most finicky eater loves the taste. If Nutro is too much for your budget, Authority from PetSmart is comparable and cheaper, and I’ve had the same results.

Nutro costs about $26.99 per 20 lb bag compared to Authority’s $18.99 for the same amount.

Royal Canin

Royal Canin has my vote for THE best brand of cat food if you can fit it into your budget! They’ve got an extensive line designed for every need imaginable, a great reputation, the best ingredients, and their food is very well made. Their line goes from a small, soft food for baby cats (Babycat) all the way to cat foods for special needs like hair and skin nutrition or maturity, and breed-specific cat foods like Persians and Maine Coons. There’s not a better cat food on the market. You can order it online or get it at your pet store, but it’s worth the trip.

Most varieties of Royal Canin run about $12.99 per 3 lb bag.

Science Diet

I wanted to make a quick comment about Science Diet while we’re talking about cat foods. Science Diet IS a good food, but it’s not really necessary to feed your cat Science Diet unless you have special medical or dietary needs and your vet puts your cat on this food.

A bag of regular Science diet will run around $18.69 per 10 lb bag

I hope these two articles help you in your hunt for the best food for your kitty! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop by the discussion area and share your cat food experiences.

Remember, when changing brands of cat food, introduce the new food slowly over the course of a week or two, simply mixed in with the food you’ve been feeding them. Changing a cat’s diet too quickly can be detrimental to their digestive system!
